Niagara Icewine Festival - Inniskillin

Not really sure what to expect from our first trip to Niagara during the Icewine Festival, we knew we couldn’t go wrong by hitting Inniskillin first. Iniskillin was celebrating their 25th anniversary making ice wine and had a hand carved 100% ice serving bar comemorating this milestone. Unfortunately, the frigid weather was not exactly accommodating and we were happy to snap a couple pictures and move quickly inside for some tastings.

Inniskillin remains one of the best icewine producers in the world and their featured sparkling vidal ice wine is absolutely world class. They paired it with a curried cauliflower soup, which was excellent. We would have loved a full bowl as the sample bowl left us wanting more. Speaking with Debi Pratt, she commented on the two sounds of ice wine she loves. The first is the sound of the frozen grapes as they are poured into the plastic storage bins, it sounds like thousands of marbles hitting the sides. The second is the “Canadian crunch” as she calls it when the snow is really, really cold it literally crunches under your foot as you walk. Well the snow is crunching today as the weather is definitely up to the occasion.
