Pinot for Beginners?

I recently finished reading a very entertaining article from Beppi
Crosariol, the wine writer for the Globe and Mail. Based on a person’s wine
preference, it will, inevitably, target their personality. I do agree to an
extent, especially the quote for white zinfandel ” People who like steak
well done and think Married with Children is funny”.
On the other hand, I think he is being a little bit rigid on one; Pinot
Noir
, for example. Although many Wino’s have embraced “Sideways”, like a
wine bible and are fundamentally basing their enjoyment of wine on Miles’
critiques, there is a huge contingent that are still very new to the world
of wine that have yet to see the movie, alternatively, there is a cult
following of individuals who are part of one of the most renowned and
exclusive wine clubs in the world, Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin.
Originally starting in 1933 to promote and encourage the great taste of
Burgundy wines, because of the lack of interest, winegrowers in Burgundy
invited their friends to taste their wines with them. The club has
blossomed into an additional Quality Control measure on Burgundian wines. A
specific seal with the Tastevin crest is placed on a bottle when the club
deems a wine is representative of a great Burgundy. Further, a person must
express a wish to become a member and be presented by two members of the
club who have agreed to be sponsors. There are currently 10,000 members, but
there is no desire to noticeably increase that number.
Now, I don’t think the members of this club would appreciate or agree that
Pinot Noir drinkers are young, inexperienced wine enthusiasts that are
following the ever growing popularity of a Hollywood Movie. What do you
think?
