We’ve decided to fly out to California at the end of May. After the long and snow packed winter, we’ve decided to go to the Central Coast where both the golfing and winery’s are plentiful. The Central Coast Region of California stretches from San Francisco to Santa Barbara, boasting 250 miles or picturesque coastline and approximately 360 wineries. Zeroing in even further, Monterey and San Benito definitely have a certain charm to them. Having visited Monterey a few years ago, but not having the opportunity to visit the wineries, we thought this would be the perfect chance. We are also excited to see the world’s largest vineyard, San Bernabe, owned by Delicato Family Vineyards. Since 1984, this lone vineyard was given official AVA status.
The San Bernabe vineyard is massive and has been identified with having 22 separate microclimates. Making this area a fantastic playground for a winemaker and a myriad of grapes, the vineyard is planted with 22 grape varietals from Barbaresco and Cabernet Sauvignon to Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio.
There is so much more to talk about and learn about this great region. I will keep you posted on my progress and exactly what wineries we intend on visiting. We may even take a day trip up the coast to Napa if we are in the mood for a drive.
